Patriots vs Broncos – AFC Championship Game Betting Preview
NFL Betting — By the Numbers: AFC Title Game – Patriots vs. Broncos
By Charles Jay
Do the numbers lie? Who knows. The Denver Broncos have brought a lot to the table defensively, while the New England Patriots are more well-known for their offense and have some strong defensive credentials as well. We’ll give you some of the numbers that are connected to this AFC title matchup, and we will see how it all plays out when the game kicks off at 3:05 PM ET on Sunday at Sports Authority Field in Denver. And speaking of numbers, they are constantly moving when Chinese Bookie customers get involved with Live Betting Extra, which will provide plenty of chills and thrills while the game is progressing.
As far as more numbers are concerned, here are the reduced juice football betting odds posted on this game by the people at Chinese Bookie:
New England Patriots -3 (+100)
Denver Broncos +3 (-110)
Over 44.5 points -108
Under 44.5 points -102
The Broncos are 13-4 straight-up this season, which included their win over Pittsburgh last week, and they are also 7-7-3 against the football betting pointspread. The Patriots are also 13-4, as well as 8-7-2 ATS. Each of these teams has played nine of their 17 games over the total.
Tom Brady, the New England quarterback, had another MVP-level season, with 4770 yards passing, and he added 302 more against the Kansas City Chiefs last week. Brady threw for 36 TD’s in the regular season. In 16 career games opposing teams quarterbacked by Peyton Manning, he has an 11-5 straight-up record.
Speaking of Manning, he gets the start for the Broncos here, and he threw 17 INT’s in ten games during the regular season, which was the second most in the league. Last week against the Steelers he was 21 of 37 for 220 yards.
It is interesting to look at the effect the presence (or absence, as it were) of Julian Edelman has on the offensive fortunes of the Patriots, and it can actually be expressed through numbers. The little guy has a big impact, to be sure. For example, when he was available this season, Brady had a 69% completion rate. When he was not around, Brady hit on just 59% of his passes. And that is a big difference.
In addition to that, New England was second in the NFL in third down conversion percentage with Edelman in the lineup. Without him, it was a scary 31%, which, if projected over the course of a full season, would have put the Pats in 29th place in the NFL. The Patriots were also undefeated in the games that Edelman started and finished.
Chinese Bookie customers realize that the Broncos are facing a major challenge, but their defensive numbers would indicate that they could be equal to the task. No team in the NFL has yielded fewer yards OR points per drive than the Broncos have. At 5.7 yards per pass attempt (allowed, that is), this stop unit is the best in the NFL in THAT category as well. They had 52 sacks (1st overall) and those sacks came on 8.27% of pass plays, which is easily the best in the league.
The other side of it is that the Broncos have not compiled strong numbers on offense. They have been forced into a “three and out” situation 27.6% of the time, and there were only two teams worse than that. And in the red zone, they got slowed down, as they converted into touchdowns only 47.7% of the time, which is no better than 28th in the league.
There is another number to keep in mind – 25. That’s the number of post-season starts Peyton Manning has made. And that represents the kind of experience the Broncos may wind up relying on more than anything else on Sunday.
Chinese Bookie customers have an opportunity to get more value with reduced juice wagering, and fast-paced, in-game betting that is very exciting……Also, they’ve got excellent customer service that speaks English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Cantonese and Mandarin!
