There are new owners coming into the picture next year for the Buffalo Bills, and therefore no one is really assured of where their places going to be next year. One of those people is head coach Doug Marrone, who was seen during training camp having heated arguments with team executives. Everything was calmed down when Buffalo got off to a 2-0 start, but consecutive losses to San Diego and Houston have opened up room for a lot more questions. For at least the time being, Marrone has lost patience with second-year quarterback EJ Manuel, and has made the change to veteran Kyle Orton as the Bills prepare to travel to the Motor City to face the Detroit Lions in NFL betting action that is scheduled to begin at 1 PM ET on Sunday at Ford Field.

Last week Manuel threw two interceptions, and Buffalo failed to capitalize when presented with turnovers by Houston in the 23-17 defeat. The second-year signal caller out of Florida State hit just 21 of his 44 passes, and Marrone made the decision that he needed more consistency out of the position.

Football bettors know the Lions more for their all offensive capabilities than anything else, but it is the defense that has really shined thus far. This team is coming off consecutive victories over the Packers and Jets in which they have stymied Aaron Rodgers and Geno Smith, and in general they have both opposing passing and running games under wraps.

Orton has played at Chicago, Denver and Dallas, and has made 70 starts in his career. When Tony Romo went down with a back injury before the 2013 season finale, Orton stepped in to start for the Cowboys in a 24-22 loss. That was his last NFL action. The key here for everyone involved is that Orton brings a much more experienced presence to the table, and this appears to be a message that Manuel is not picking up things from the mental standpoint. In fact, Sammy Watkins, the first-round draft choice who has quickly made a mark at the wide receiver position (17 catches, 197 yards) says that Orton has been much quicker at making reads. And he has only been with the team for a month.

Chinese Bookie customers need to know the kind of numbers Detroit has put up on the defensive side. This team has allowed the opposition only 57.5% completions, which is outstanding in this day and age. And they have allowed the opposition only 3.4 yards per carry. Opponents have converted only 34% of their third-down opportunities as well.

Those analyzing the NFL betting lines also need to know a little bit about Detroit’s situation at the skill positions. Matthew Stafford has done well enough, although he has been sacked eleven times this season. His top receiver, Calvin Johnson, is really laboring with a sprained ankle, and as of now he is listed as doubtful. That obviously creates a void, as Johnson had 341 receiving yards – 329 of them coming in the first three games. Golden Tate (317 yards) will be expected to take up some of the slack, but he has been bothered by a hamstring pull. Maybe Reggie Bush (18 receptions out of the backfield) becomes a more viable option this week. This doesn’t sound like a shootout.
