Houston Rockets coach Kevin McHale was very pleased with what he saw out of his team in Game 5 of the West semi-finals, and he would obviously like to see more of the same. However, when this team enters into the Staples Center, it’s like entering a house of horrors, or at least that is the way it seems after their first two attempts at the Los Angeles Clippers‘ venue. They have no choice but to be successful on Thursday night as they attempt to stay alive in the series, as the game tips off at 10:35 PM ET. Customers at Chinese Bookie have the opportunity to challenge the NBA odds as the game is in progress, as the numbers on sides, totals and props change dynamically. It is fast and furious action through Live Betting Extra.

It was desperation time for Houston on Tuesday, as they came out smoking in the first quarter, attacking the inside and the scoring 20 points in the paint. That set the tone for the rest of the game. The Rockets asserted their muscle on the glass, achieving a 58-39 rebounding edge, had three players scored 20 or more points, and got great contributions out of the bench as they destroyed the Clippers 124-103 to get to within three games to two. Of course, not many NBA teams have come back from a 3-1 deficit to win a series, but if the Rockets can pull off the upset, they bring the series right back to the Toyota Center in Houston for the decisive seventh game.

In the NBA odds that have been posted on this game by the folks at Chinese Bookie, the Clippers are the home favorites:

    Los Angeles Clippers -8.5
    Houston Rockets +8.5

    Over 219.5 points -110
    Under 219.5 points -110

Tuesday’s game was yet another that was slowed down considerably because of the intentional fouling of the two big men in the game. Neither DeAndre Jordan of the Clippers nor Dwight Howard of the Rockets shoots their free throws particularly well, so naturally each of the coaches was going to put them on the line as much is possible. Well, we guess Jordan had the slight edge there, making seven out of his 16 attempts, while Howard was 6-14. That didn’t matter very much, though, as Jordan had foul trouble on defense and played only 24 minutes. That made it much less of a factor than Doc Rivers intended him to be.

But you really can’t point at Jordan as the real problem. The Clippers just couldn’t get their shots to drop. Many of them had awful nights from the field; Matt Barnes was only 1-8, while JJ Redick, who went into the game hitting over 50%, was just 3-12 and missed seven of his eight attempts from three-point range. Jamal Crawford and Austin Rivers combined to shoot just 5-21 off the bench. And a lot of the credit, as Chinese Bookie customers know, has to go to the way Houston played defense. As it turns out, it was a sound move part of McHale to start Josh Smith in the game ahead of Terrence Jones at the power forward spot, as Smith is known to alter shots in the lane. That also seemed to open things up for Trevor Ariza, who scored 22 points.

The big hero for the Rockets, however, had to be James Harden, who had to fight through an illness but had a triple-double nonetheless (26 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists). All told, Houston had the 64-46 edge in points in the paint. But can they keep up the momentum? They have lost nine out of their last 10 games at the Staples Center, and Chris Paul demonstrated that he can play extended minutes after coming back from the hamstring injury. He scored 22 points in just under 35 minutes of play, so he can go the whole route if he has to.
