World Cup Live – Belgium Favored over TeamUSA in Knockout Round Matchup

If you live in the United States, you know that things for national soccer coach Jurgen Klinsmann have been anything but smooth over the last couple of months. One of the things he did that brought great controversy was cutting veteran Landon Donovan from the squad, something that came as a shock to many World Cup bettors in the US, primarily because of the fact that Donovan had scored more international goals than anybody in the national program.

Klinsmann had also spoken of the inability of the US team to win this tournament, and was quoted in the New York Times this way: “We cannot win this World Cup, because we are not at that level yet. For us, we have to play the game of our lives seven times to win the tournament. Realistically, it is not possible.”

That brought him a lot of criticism, as one can imagine, because it made it sound like he didn’t believe in his own team. But maybe there was some psychology at work there; perhaps Klinsmann wanted to reduce expectations on the part of American soccer fans so that his team could play more loosely. And one thing Klinsmann wants his team to do is to feel free to go out on the attack.

After making their way through Group G, which had been tagged the “Group of Death,” the US is now in the elimination phase of the tournament, where Belgium awaits at 4 PM Eastern time on Tuesday in Salvador, televised on ESPN. And it appears as if Klinsmann has changed his tone, and his tune, quite a bit.

    Belgium advances -220
    United States advances +180

Even though his team went only 1-1-1 in the group, and made critical mistakes that robbed it of a victory against Portugal and perhaps a tie against Germany, Klinsmann is now on record as saying he believes his team can go all the way and win the Cup. Or at least that’s the way some of the press has interpreted it.

There really isn’t a direct quote from the coach predicting a World Cup championship, but of the game against Belgium, Klinsmann says “we have absolutely no fear at all. We’re in a position to challenge them. We have the foundation to beat them. Can we do it? Yes we can.”

Hey, that’s enough for some people. is it enough for Chinese Bookie customers who are very sharp when it comes to wagering on “world football”?

This is yet another period in the United States where soccer is “catching on.” Whether this enthusiasm endures or not is probably going to depend on how far the team can go in this competition. There are some young players who have shown much promise, but others, like Michael Bradley and Clint Dempsey, have a shorter window, in all likelihood.

That is why it is important that Bradley makes some of his effort count. During group play it was calculated that he ran more than anyone among the 32 teams – 23.6 miles, in fact – but not everyone has been happy with his results when it comes to offense. Klinsmann has shifted him to a less familiar spot as a more attacking midfielder, and that may account for it.

But that isn’t going to be met with a lot of criticism right now, because as far as a lot of American observers (and World Cup bettors) are concerned, at the moment Klinsmann knows best.

By the way, if you want to keep betting on the game after it has already started, hop on board with Chinese Bookie and find “Live Betting Extra.” You’ll love it. But you’ll love that bonus first, when you sign up!
